Manchester is a large city in the North West of England, in the UK. The city has one of the largest populations in the country at around half a million people. It can be found in the county of Greater Machester, South-West of the Pennines.

Manchester has a deep-rooted culture and was the site of many world firsts, including the location of the world’s first railway station (Manchester Liverpool Road Station) and the place where the atom was first split by scientists. The city is also well-know in the world of sport, particularly football – there are two world calls football teams; Manchester City and Manchester United who are based locally, each of whom have achieved a number of accolades.

There are two Universities in the city – The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, providing higher level education to many students who come from across the country and worldwide to further their knowledge. The former contains the city’s business school which, in 1965, was the first of it’s type to offer the MBA in the UK.

Many world-famous bands and music artists originate from the city, including Oasis, The Smiths and The Stone Roses. The Chemical Brothers also came together in Manchester, although they are originally from London. Many of these artists have played at the city’s main music venue – Manchester Arena. This venue has been voted as International Venue of the year and is the largest of it’s kind in Europe, with over 20,000 seats to hold the screaming fans. Notably, it is also the busiest music venue in the world, beating both madison square garden and London’s O2 arena. However there are also a number of smaller music venues to entertain the up-and-coming indie bands who may one day make it onto the big stage.
